Today, we’re shining a spotlight on Nauset’s Cross Country team. Both the boys and girls currently hold 2-2 records and are looking to secure a win in their final dual meet to end the regular season with a winning record. Although only one league meet remains, the season is far from over. For those who have qualified, they still have the Cape and Island Championships and States ahead of them. One of the most anticipated events is the Twilight Meet. Senior captain Maddy Mahoney describes it as a season highlight. Held at night at the Barnstable County Fairgrounds, the runners race under the stars, with their path lit by lights. Mahoney emphasizes the unique energy of the meet, where lights and music create a vibrant atmosphere unlike any other event. The team captains had nothing but praise for their squad, particularly after their performance in the coed cross-country relay, where three teams placed impressively, with one team earning a top-10 medal. Nauset’s Cross Country team has a special dynamic, bringing the boys’ and girls’ teams together in a way that’s rare. While most schools have separate coaches and programs for each gender, Nauset trains under one coach, with the only separation occurring during gender-specific meets. The athletes thrive when they race together, regardless of whether their scores are combined. Senior captain Brad Hagopian notes how much the team “really supports each other.” Although each runner competes individually, their scores are tallied as a team, and everyone cheers each other on, whether they’re leading the pack or finishing last. The team’s close-knit nature fosters a true sense of teamwork. Mahoney adds that in Cross Country, it’s easy to focus on your own performance, but it’s important to remember that “we’re all in it together.” We’re cheering for this incredible team in their upcoming meets—go Warriors!

It’s been a standout season for Nauset’s Girls Field Hockey team! Despite transitioning between coaches, a challenge that could have set them back, the team has handled the change with ease. In fact, the players feel this season has been even more successful than previous ones. Senior captain Abby Powers noted that the team has made “a good amount of progress from the beginning of the season and [is] coming together more as a team.” With a current record of 5-6-2, the team has tied against Nantucket twice—an achievement the captains are especially proud of, as Nantucket is one of their toughest opponents. Senior captain Lexi Robicheau believes that if they “keep up the good energy and hard work,” they have a solid chance at making the postseason. The team is especially motivated to qualify this year, after missing out last season, seeing this as their redemption year. The team’s close bond is a key part of their success. The captains rave about their emphasis on team bonding, with some of the best memories coming from team dinners at the Lost Dog, organized by junior captain Callie Murphy. Whether dressing up together on game days or cheering from the field and sidelines, the connection among teammates is clear both on and off the field. Looking ahead, the team’s Senior Night is scheduled for October 24 against Saint John Paul II, and students are encouraged to come out and support the Class of 2025 in their final game on the NRHS turf! If you can’t make it to that game, there are several more home games to close out the season. The team would love to see the student section filled with energy at their games on October 10, 16, 18, and 22 at 4:00 pm. Come support your fellow Warriors—go Nauset!
