NRMS: 2026-2027 Exploratory Course Selection for Current 7th Graders

Good Afternoon Grade 7 Parents and Guardians,
We are in the process of scheduling students into courses for the 2026-2027 school year.

In 8th grade, students will continue to study French or Spanish. They will also be scheduled for one quarter of each of the following: Physical Education (PE); Health; and Financial Literacy

The remaining quarter allows for one elective course in their schedule. We are proud to be able to offer students a choice in Grade 8 and especially excited about the content of these courses; many of which are unique to our school.

Students will then select from the following five course offerings:  Art and Envision; Engineering/Robotics, Greenhouse; Changemakers; and Guitar and Songwriting. The full course descriptions are available at: NRMS Course Descriptions If you would like to take Fitness in place of PE, then you must select Fitness as your first choice and then select one of the other five options as alternative choices.

The next step in the process is for you to speak with your student about their elective and alternate choice. It is important for students to indicate their preference for one elective course and an alternate choice. Then your student will be assigned to one of their two course choices for next year.

All elective course selection requests must be completed and received by: Wednesday, April 15, 2026
Please note: Again, all grade 7 students are required to make their elective course selections as well as alternatives as not all students will be able to be placed in their first choice.

To make your selection, either: 1) your child logs into Aspen and makes the request by following the steps outlined on the linked document below; or 2) you can log in to your account in the Aspen portal and make the course selection request for your student. For the step-by-step instructions, you can review the "How To" Guide in the following link: NRMS How To Guide for Course Selection

Please let us know if you have any questions.

Thank you,
Peter Cohen, Principal

Dear Parents and Guardians,

You are invited to join us for our upcoming virtual PTO meeting tomorrow from 6:00–7:00 PM. During this meeting we will be discussing two important upcoming school events: our Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser and the 8th Grade Dinner Dance.

We especially encourage parents of 6th and 7th grade students to consider helping with the planning and chaperoning of the 8th Grade Dinner Dance. Many families participate in this as a “pay it forward” opportunity—supporting this year’s 8th graders so that when your child reaches 8th grade, you can fully enjoy the milestone celebration with your family.

During the meeting you will also have the opportunity to meet our new PTO officers, and we will discuss several open PTO positions that we are still hoping to fill with parent volunteers.

Your involvement makes a huge difference in creating meaningful experiences for our students, and we hope you can join us.

Virtual PTO Meeting March 11th
Time: 6:00–7:00 PM

Thank you for your continued support of our school community. We look forward to seeing you there.

2026-2027 World Language Selection for Current 6th Graders

Dear Current Grade 6 Parents and Guardians:
We are in the process of scheduling students into courses for the 2026-2027 school year. For current 6th graders going into 7th grade next year, they are required to select a World Language to study in 7th and 8th grades. The first step in this process is for you to speak with your student about their World Language choice. The choices are French or Spanish. The following is a course description:

Seventh Grade World Language
Seventh grade world language is an engaging, academic two-year program designed to set students on the path to fluency. In this class, students complete the first half of Level 1 in 7th grade and the second half in 8th grade, building a strong foundation in the language. The goal is for students to enter Level 2 as freshmen, ready to continue their language journey with confidence.

Learning a world language is an invaluable skill, allowing students to connect with millions of speakers and opening doors to diverse career paths. Through fun activities, games, and real-world conversations, students will develop their speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills while exploring the rich cultures of the French and Spanish-speaking world. By the end of the two years, they will be equipped to communicate in their chosen language and gain an appreciation for its diverse traditions, history, and people.

All World Language requests must be completed and received by March 23, 2026.
Please note: All grade 6 students are required to make their World Language selection; however not all students will be scheduled to take a World Language.

To make your selection, either: 1) your child logs into Aspen and makes the request by following the steps outlined on the linked document below; or 2) you can log in to your account in the Aspen portal and make the language request for your student. For the step-by-step instructions, you can review the "How To" Guide in the following link: NRMS How To Guide for Course Selection

To sign up for participation, please visit Arbiter Sports by clicking: HERE.
Please ensure that you complete the registration by the deadline, which is March 20th.

PHYSICAL
Before students can participate in tryouts, it is imperative that they have a valid in-person physical examination on file with the nurse's office at NRMS dated within the last 13 months. If your student-athlete's physical examination is not up to date, we urge you to schedule an appointment at your earliest convenience to ensure timely clearance for participation in the tryouts. All NPS schools will be closed again on Friday, February 27.

Power restoration efforts have been highly successful, and nearly all of our schools now have electricity restored. However, widespread residential outages continue across the region. In addition, there are ongoing safety concerns at bus stops and along several roadways due to remaining debris and snow accumulation. These conditions present potential concerns for student safety.

All schools will reopen on Monday, March 2.

Thank you for your continued patience and understanding as we have worked through this unprecedented situation. We look forward to welcoming everyone back to school next week.

Dear Families,

We are pleased to share that Nauset Public Schools is partnering with Cape Kid Meals to provide non-perishable food items to our families.

Each meal bag contains shelf-stable, ready-to-eat items that require little to no preparation. The bags include a variety of breakfasts, lunches, dinners, and snacks—enough food for one child for the weekend. Families are welcome to request as many bags as needed to support their household.

You are invited to stop by Nauset Regional Middle School tomorrow, Thursday, February 26, between 2:00 and 4:00 PM to pick up a bag of non-perishable food items.

Location:
Nauset Regional Middle School
70 Route 28
Orleans, MA 02653

When you arrive, please enter through the front entrance of the middle school and remain in your car. Staff will be on hand and will bring the bags directly to your car. You will simply need to let staff know how many bags you would like when you pull up to the front of the line.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Victoria Saldana, Assistant Superintendent at (508) 255-8800; saldanav@nausetschools.org .

Dear Members of the Nauset School Community,

All Nauset Public Schools and offices will be closed once again tomorrow, Thursday, February 26.

Power outages across our four towns remain widespread and continue to impact the majority of our school buildings. While our facilities are equipped with emergency generators, they are not designed to support full building operations for regular school occupancy.

Multiple power restoration crews are actively working throughout the region. We are closely monitoring restoration efforts and will assess whether opening schools on Friday is feasible. If power is restored and our towns are fully operational, the current plan is to hold school on Friday.

Further updates will be shared as soon as additional information becomes available.

Dear Members of the Nauset Community,

Please note that Nauset Public Schools will open two hours later tomorrow, Tuesday, January 27.

Tremendous progress was made today in cleaning up from the storm across all of our campuses. However, with additional snow forecasted overnight and very cold temperatures expected, there is concern that untreated areas could freeze and impact road safety.

The two-hour delay will allow town road crews and school custodial staff additional time to treat roads, walkways, and parking areas to help ensure safer conditions for students and staff.

On a related note, please continue to pay close attention to the upcoming forecast. We are expecting extremely cold temperatures in the coming days, so please dress appropriately.

Thank you for your support and understanding.

Sincerely,
Glenn Brand
