The mission of the school library media program is:
- to promote life-long reading and learning to students, both for pleasure and for informational purposes
- to encourage students in becoming effective users of ideas and information
- to provide quality resources and instruction to students
- to provide collaboration with staff to create authentic learning for all students
- to be an integral part of Orleans Elementary School and its surrounding community

Our library has an automated catalog called Follett Destiny. We also have 7 computers and a SMART Board available for instruction, searching the online catalog, word processing, using programs and selected site research.

Calmer Choice/Mindfulness Lesson 1: Five-Finger Breathing
During our Calmer Choice lessons in the library, we have learned one way you canpay attention to your breath when you notice your amygdala/guard dog/alarm going off is by practicing 5-finger breathing.Here's how you can teach 5-finger breathing to your families:As the pointer finger of one hand runs along the outside of the other hand’s fingers,starting with the base of thethumb...the in breath (up the thumb...the pause in betweenrounding over the top of the thumb)...the out breath (downthe inside of the thumb)...and the pause in between(rounding at the bottom of thumb)...the in breath (up the pointer finger...keep going around all fingers and then tracearound the bottom of the hand back to the base of thethumb. -
Library Lessons Grades 3-5: Week of March 23-27 - Capstone Interactive eBooks
Capstone Interactive eBooks is a collection of high-quality eBooks and audiobooks with natural-voice audio and unlimited circulation, so any number of students can read or listen to the same book simultaneously. Many of the books have a STEM theme and activities at the end. You can log in with the username orleans and the password school.

Library Lessons Grades K-2: Week of March 23-27 - Picture Books Read Aloud Videos
Pernille Ripp has put together an excellent list of websites where you can find videos of picture books being read aloud: Picture Books Read Aloud Videos for Lesson Use. This will give you the chance to learn about lots of new books while school is closed.
Many authors and illustrators are also holding live, interactive online events. You can find more information here: Virtual Author Activities
