Food has always been an important part of our lives, from our needs to survive to the pure enjoyment and comfort of favorite flavors and dishes to the social pleasures of sharing good food with friends and family to its value providing essential nutrients for our bodies and brains to the ability to explore other cultures through their cuisines and food ways to the satisfaction and creativity involved in making and eating real food from scratch.
Most of us didn’t cook, at least not from scratch, at home very often. Juggling busy work schedules and student extra-curricular activity and job schedules made that option an impossible one for most of us. Along came the COVID19 Pandemic. Overnight, it seemed, we were asked to stay at home, work from home – and for most of us, this meant a lot more cooking at home! My students have missed coming into our kitchen at school and being able to cook up delicious foods from scratch with their teammates. For many, accessing ingredients during this Stay-At-Home time has been a serious challenge. Others have been cooking up a proverbial storm both on their own and with their families.
