The Vocal Courses Presently Offered at
Nauset Regional High School


Concert Chorus

Open to any student in grades 9-12. This course involves choral performance, vocal training, music reading, listening analysis, and composition. The curriculum emphasizes broad-spectrum high-quality choral literature selected to ensure a wide range of vocal experiences for the beginning and experienced choral student. This ensemble performs four concerts per year.

Treble Chorus

Treble Chorus is open by audition only to female students in grades 10-12. This course involves choral performance, vocal training, music reading, listening analysis, and composition. The advanced curriculum emphasizes broad-spectrum high-quality treble choral literature selected to ensure a wide range of vocal experiences for the experienced choral student. This ensemble performs four concerts at NRHS per year and may also perform at various civic events.

Honors Chorus

Honors Chorus is open by audition only to students in grades 10-12. This honors level course involves choral performance, vocal training, music reading, listening analysis, and composition. This rigorous curriculum emphasizes broad-spectrum choral literature in as many vocal parts as 12. A wide variety of college-level choral literature is studied during the year. In addition to the NRHS four concert season, the Honors Chorus performs at numerous civic events. Competition at the state level is required. Full score oratorios are typically performed each year in such venues as Carnegie Hall, and locally with the Chatham Chorale and various churches.

Acafellas

This group is open to all men currently enrolled in a choral or instrumental music ensemble at NRHS. This group typically meets once a week after school to sing pop acapella literature. Performances include civic and scholastic events.

Studio Recitals

This solo performance opportunity is open to all students currently enrolled in a music ensemble at NRHS. Studio recitals are informal and are held once a month in Room B207 at 2:00pm (see calendar). All NRHS students and the public are invited to attend.

Director

The Choral Program is under the direction of Mrs. Allison Beavan.

Mrs. Beavan is an educator with over twenty years of professional singing and private vocal studio experience. She has performed as a soloist throughout the northeast and at Carnegie Hall with the Robert Shaw Festival Singers. Prior to teaching at Nauset Regional High School, Mrs. Beavan was soprano assistant to conductors Robert Shaw, James Conlon, and Andre Previn.

Mrs. Beavan is a contributor to the American Choral Directors Association Choral Journal and presents choral repertoire education sessions at state and national conventions. She holds a Bachelor's Degree from Houghton College, and a Masters Degree in Music Education from Central Connecticut State University. She is a member of NATS, ACDA, Chorus America, MENC, MMEA and CCMEA. Mrs. Beavan is Music Director at the UUMH in Chatham and lives in Brewster with her husband Les of Crabgrass Bluegrass banjo fame.
